My coachella 2009 top 10 and last weeks radio show.(Archived from my website

It has been five years since I made the commitment to journey into the Gyps-ter infested polo fields of the Coachella Music Festival.  Why make the journey this year?  Well,  I simply had to do it.  I couldn’t stand to miss another year of fun in the blistering sun. You see, I am a hardcore music festival goer in the since that there are bands I want to see from start to finish.   Even though I will make an effort to see the head liners, (The Cure, Morrissey, Franz Firdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, M.I.A. and yes even sir Paul), there are many other artists I am very excited to see.  Here is my top ten:
. 1.Girl Talk

. 2.Sebastien Tellier

. 3.Glass Candy

. 4.The Black Keys

. 5.Gang Gang Dance

. 6.Chemical Brothers

. 7.MSTRKRFT

. 8.The Presets

. 9.Noah & The Whale

. 10. Friendly Fires

I have prepared myself for the massed, the sun and the beer tent.  I’ve got my fanny pack, a golf cart, my hubby and new shades.
Bring it on!

White Williams and my Little Radio radio show (Archived from my website)

My new discovery this week is White Williams. Last week I download the album ‘Smoke’ and haven’t stopped playing it since. There is something very dreamy about his music. I read on line that he recorded most of the album on his laptop while on tour with his other bands. His tracks are filled with a variety of obscure sounds. I look forward to seeing him live.

Cerrone 3 - Supernature

Aaa.. summer time. Nothing but a cold, can of malt liquor, good tunes and a blow up water slide to settle into the Los Angeles heat. That was the vibe at last saturdays Summer Camp over at littleradio. I had the pleasure of going one for ones on the decks with the lovely Jason Mason (Punky Reggae). He inspired the jam of the week.

This kids pulled out of his 5 crates of records the Cerrone album Supernature. The album cover alone is worth a thousand words (It is truly demented). The jam Supernature is the ultimate in 1970’s obscure disco. This guy has inspired a generation of electro heads. psychedelic, funky and worthy to be the soundtrack to your summer time sun fun.

Jay z-D.O.A (Death of Autotune) and my 1990’s hip hop jams (Archive from my website)

I am a b-girl at heart. Hip Hop is why I bacame a DJ. With the current state of affairs I have strayed from my usual formate and found solos in disco, electro, soul and indierock. I often beat myself up about walking a different path and wonder what happened. At one point I was adamint about only playing Hop Hop music. When did this change? The reality is change is the only perminet thing we’ve got, but everyonce and a while things come back around.
Jay Z’s D.O.A. stirs up something reminestint to that 90’s hip hop sound I once loved so much. When I hear this track, classic hip hop jams pop into my mind. That’s when I knew I loved this song. Plus the lyrics are sick. Thank you Jay Z for finally saying it. D.O.A!

Here’s a list of some those 1990’s Hip Hop jams:
EPMD-Cross Over
Jay Z-Brooklyn’s finest
Redman-Time 4 Sum Aksion

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson. MJ tribute radio show playlist (Archived from my website)

I am always curious when famous actors decide to delve into the the music world. It can sometimes be a disaster and other times it can pass for the commercial consumer. It is not very often that I flip my lid for their music.
There is, however, the times when a talented actor teams up with a talented musician and makes beautiful love for your ears. Such is the case for Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson’s Relator.

Tirk’s RIP EP. my trip to Turntable Lab & Radio Show (Archived from my website)

In the past 24 hours I’ve been blessed with vinyl! Last night I went to Carbon and witnessed DJs, including Peanut Butter Wolf, throwing down some amazing 80’s funk. Dam Funk, who hosts the night, was selling a little ’45 of some music he worked on. Of course I bought it. I love that. It’s so old school to sell EPs that way. It’s a funky little Dam funk production called ‘Wavelength’. I am going to play this week on my radio show.

Then today I went to Turntable Lab for some gear and couldn’t help but buy records as well. Along with some jamz that I found, the guys working there suggested the following:
-A little white label that turns out to be Alexander Robotnik’s ‘Problem D' Amour’.
-Based on Kyoto ‘Flower.’ is a track coming off of a Japaness lable. I like the James Pants tack.
-Off the Tirk label, Unabombers Presents Electric Chair RIP EP which is amazing. Some sick remixes of some old goodies. The Tirk label is this obscure dance/electro label from England that has been making it’s mark with sold releases of rock’n EPs.
-I was pretty excited about buying the Guns N’ Roses ‘Appetite for Destruction’ limited release with the original banned cover. I also picked up ESG, Fiest, Egyptian Lover and Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ (which completes my vinyl colection for Radiohead.

The Hours-See the Light Calvin Harris remix, Radio show playlist (Archived from my website)

Wow! In the past couple of weeks I have acquired so much music I don’t even know where to begin. Here’s a list of stuff I’ve been playing in my car:
Passion Pit-wallpaper remix
Rye Rye feat. M.I.A-Bang
Cobra Krames-Choose You
The Gossip-Heavy Cross
The Pragmatics-Cirlcles (Harley School remix)
Golden Silvers
Empire of The Sun
The Rapture-Pieces of People We Love (oldies but goody)
Animal Collective
The Golden Filter
Buraka Som Sistema

But my ‘Jam of the Week’ is a song I got about a month ago and every time I play it in the club or hear it I can’t help but jump around. The Calvin Harris remix of ‘See The Light’ by The Hours is his best yet. It has the perfect union of a disco dance beat, with a simplified chorus and happy layers of synth and piano. Then there’s this tweaked, melodic lead synth that bounces along the track which makes me dance no matter what.

‘Jam of the Week’ Radio Show May 21:
My guest last week was Baron Von Luxxury who selected some wicked tracks. I had so much fun with him that I didn’t keep track of any of the songs he played. Luckily you can find a podcast of the show on the www.littleradio.com archives. We talked about the tracks he picked, made fun of celebrity playlists and practiced our deep radio voices.
